These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and AppskKuber ("AppskKuber", "we", "our", or "us") about your use of the QuietBox Android application (package com.appskuber.quietbox) and this legal website (together, the "Service"). Please read them; they are written to be understood.
The most important thing in these Terms. Your Vault is encrypted with keys that only you hold. If you forget both your PIN and your Recovery Code, your photos and videos cannot be recovered — not by you, not by us, not by anyone. We have no copy of your Vault, no master key and no reset. Write your Recovery Code on paper and keep it safe, somewhere other than where you keep your backups.
1. Definitions
- App
- The QuietBox Android application, package identifier
com.appskuber.quietbox, including its updates. - Vault
- The encrypted collection of photos, videos, albums and related records that you create in the App, including any Decoy Vault.
- Vault Folder
- The folder on your phone that you choose during setup, in which the encrypted Vault is stored.
- PIN
- The six-digit number that opens your Vault.
- Recovery Code
- The sixteen-character code shown to you once during setup, which opens your Vault after a reinstall, on a new phone, or when you forget your PIN.
- Backup File
- An encrypted copy of your Vault that the App writes when you ask it to.
- Your Content
- The photos, videos, album names and notes you put into the App.
2. Acceptance of These Terms
By buying, installing or using the App, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. If you use the App on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you may bind it to these Terms.
These Terms add to, and do not replace, the Google Play Terms of Service that govern your purchase from Google Play.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old, or the higher minimum age set by the law of your country (16 in parts of the EEA), to use the App. If you are under 18, or under the age of majority where you live, you may use the App only with the involvement of a parent or guardian, who accepts these Terms on your behalf and is responsible for your use of the App.
4. The Service
QuietBox keeps photos and videos in an encrypted vault on your phone. It works entirely offline: it has no internet access, no account, no server and no cloud storage of ours. It does not show advertising and does not collect personal data, as described in the Privacy Policy.
Because everything happens on your phone, we cannot see, restore, repair, unlock or recover your Vault, and we cannot help you open a Vault whose PIN and Recovery Code are both lost.
5. Licence to Use the App
When you buy the App through Google Play, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the App on Android devices you own or control, for your own private, non-commercial use, to the extent Google Play allows the purchase to be used on your devices. You may not:
- copy, sell, rent, lend, sublicense or distribute the App, or offer it through any other store or website;
- decompile, reverse-engineer or disassemble the App, except to the extent the law expressly allows despite this restriction;
- remove or alter any copyright or licence notice;
- use the App to build a competing product.
6. Your PIN and Recovery Code
- You choose your PIN. The App shows your Recovery Code once, during setup, and asks you to confirm that you wrote it down. You can make a new Recovery Code later, from inside your Vault.
- Neither the PIN nor the Recovery Code is stored by the App in readable form, and neither is ever sent to us. We cannot tell you what they are, and we cannot reset them.
- If you forget your PIN, your Recovery Code lets you choose a new one. If you lose your Recovery Code, make a new one while you can still open your Vault.
- If you forget both, your Vault cannot be opened and its contents are permanently lost. This is how the App keeps your photos private, not a fault in it.
- Keep your PIN secret. Anyone who knows it, or watches you type it, can open your Vault on your phone.
- After many wrong PINs the App makes you wait before you can try again, and in a disguise these tries are counted silently. This is a security measure.
7. Backups and Your Vault Folder
- Your Vault is stored only on your phone. Making and keeping Backup Files, and keeping them somewhere other than your Recovery Code, is your responsibility. The App can remind you, but it cannot back up by itself, because it has no internet access.
- Keep the Vault Folder where it is. It looks empty, but your encrypted Vault is inside. Deleting it, moving it, renaming it, or letting a "cleaner" app remove it can make your Vault unavailable or destroy it.
- A Backup File opens only with the Recovery Code that was valid when the backup was made.
- If you store a Backup File with a cloud service or on another device, that service’s own terms apply to that copy.
8. Acceptable Use
You are solely responsible for Your Content and for how you use the App. You must not use the App to:
- store, hide or distribute any content that is unlawful where you live, including child sexual abuse material, which is illegal everywhere and which we condemn absolutely;
- store intimate or private images of another person without that person’s consent, or to harass, stalk, threaten or blackmail anyone;
- conceal evidence of a crime, obstruct a lawful investigation, or evade a lawful order;
- infringe anyone’s copyright, privacy or other rights;
- interfere with or attempt to break the security of the App or of any device other than your own.
The App’s encryption means we cannot see Your Content and do not monitor it. That does not make unlawful use lawful, and you alone bear the consequences of it.
9. Disguise, Decoy Vault, Intruder Photo and Panic Exit
- Disguise. The App can look like a Calculator, Clock or Notes app on your home screen. Android’s settings and some other places may still show the App’s real name. A disguise makes the App less noticeable; it is not a guarantee that nobody will discover it.
- Decoy Vault. A second PIN can open a separate, harmless vault. It works only on the phone where you set it up, and your Recovery Code restores only your Main Vault. Someone who knows the App well may be able to infer, for example from the size of the Vault Folder, that there is more than the Decoy Vault shows.
- Intruder photo. If you turn it on, the front camera photographs whoever enters wrong PINs. Laws on photographing people differ between countries. You are responsible for using this feature only where and how the law allows, and for any use you make of the photos.
- Panic exit. If you turn it on, the Vault closes when the phone is placed face down or shaken hard. It depends on the phone’s motion sensors and may not react in every situation.
None of these features can protect you from someone who forces you to reveal your real PIN, from a phone that is rooted or compromised, or from the other limits listed on the Help page.
10. Price and Purchase through Google Play
- The App is sold as a one-time purchase through Google Play, at the price shown in the Play Store for your country, including any taxes Google collects. There are no subscriptions and no in-app purchases.
- Google Play is the seller of record for the transaction and processes your payment. We never see your payment details.
- Prices may change in the future; a price change does not affect a purchase you have already made.
11. Refunds
- Because Google Play is the seller, refunds are issued by Google, not by AppskKuber. We cannot refund a Play transaction ourselves.
- Within 48 hours of purchase you can usually request a refund yourself in the Play Store (Order history → the order → Request a refund), or at play.google.com/store/account/orderhistory.
- After 48 hours, request it through Google Play support. Google decides at its discretion.
- We will help. If the App failed in a way that cost you money, write to help@appskuber.com with the subject "[QuietBox] Refund" and your Google Play order number, and we will look into it and support your request with Google.
- Statutory rights. Nothing here limits a right of withdrawal or cancellation you have under your local consumer law.
12. Your Phone, Android and Other Apps
- The App needs Android 10 or later. Features such as fingerprint unlock, the camera and the panic exit depend on your phone’s hardware.
- The App relies on Android and on your phone maker’s software, including Android Keystore and Android’s file, photo and folder pickers. We do not control them. A system update, a factory reset or a change to the screen lock can make this phone’s keys unusable; your Recovery Code is the way back.
- When you remove originals from your gallery, copies may remain in cloud services such as Google Photos, in other apps you shared them from, or in other apps’ caches. Removing those is up to you.
- Other apps you use with the App — your gallery, email app, file manager or a cloud storage app — are governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
13. Updates and Changes to the App
We may release updates that fix problems, improve security or change features. Updates are delivered through Google Play; the App itself never downloads anything. We aim to keep every update able to open Vaults and Backup Files made by earlier versions. We may stop offering the App for sale in some or all countries; that does not stop an installed copy from working.
14. Intellectual Property
The App, its design, code, text, graphics, icons and the name "QuietBox" belong to AppskKuber or its licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. These Terms give you no right to use our names, logos or trademarks.
Your Content remains yours. You grant us no rights in it, and we never receive it.
15. Open-Source Components
The App includes open-source software, such as Google Tink, the Argon2 reference implementation, AndroidX and the Flutter framework, each under its own licence. The full licence texts are in the App under Settings → About → Open-source licenses. Where a licence grants you rights these Terms would otherwise restrict, that licence prevails for that component.
16. Privacy
How the Service handles information is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms. In short: the App collects no personal data and has no internet access.
17. Termination
You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it; please read Section 7 and the Privacy Policy about what stays on your phone. Your licence ends automatically if you breach these Terms. Because the App works offline, termination cannot delete anything on your phone; the Vault Folder and your Backup Files remain where you keep them.
18. Disclaimers of Warranty
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
We work hard to make the App secure and reliable, but we do not warrant that it is free of errors, that it will work on every phone or with every future version of Android, that its security cannot be defeated, or that it will prevent every loss of data. No software is unbreakable, and we do not claim otherwise.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
19. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- AppskKuber shall not be liable for any loss of Your Content or of access to it resulting from: forgetting both your PIN and your Recovery Code; not having a Backup File; the loss, theft, damage, reset or replacement of your phone; the deletion, moving or corruption of the Vault Folder or a Backup File by you, another app or the operating system; changes made by Android or your phone’s maker; or someone else learning your PIN;
- AppskKuber shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, nor for loss of profit, revenue, goodwill, or data, arising out of or in connection with the Service, whether in contract, tort (including negligence) or otherwise, even if advised of the possibility;
- AppskKuber’s total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the price you paid for the App, or (b) INR 1,000.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or under your non-excludable consumer rights. If you are a consumer in the EEA, the UK, India or another jurisdiction with mandatory consumer protections, those protections apply in addition to these Terms and prevail over them where they conflict.
20. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless AppskKuber and its proprietor from any claim, demand, loss, liability or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from: (a) your breach of these Terms; (b) Your Content; (c) your use of the intruder photo feature; or (d) your use of the App in violation of any law or of anyone’s rights. This does not apply to the extent the claim arises from our own breach or negligence.
21. Governing Law & Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Subject to Section 22, the courts at Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, India have exclusive jurisdiction.
If you are a consumer resident in the EEA or the UK, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer law of your country of residence, nor of the right to bring proceedings in your local courts.
22. Dispute Resolution
Talk to us first. Before starting any formal proceeding, please email help@appskuber.com with the subject "[QuietBox] Dispute", describing the issue and the resolution you want. We will respond in good faith, and most matters are resolved this way within 30 days.
If a dispute remains unresolved after 30 days, it shall be referred to arbitration by a sole arbitrator under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, seated at Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, India, conducted in English, with the award being final and binding. Either party may still seek injunctive relief from a court to protect intellectual property or prevent ongoing harm.
Nothing in this section prevents a consumer from approaching a consumer forum or grievance authority available to them by law, including under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 in India.
23. Force Majeure
We are not responsible for any failure or delay caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, epidemics, war, government action, failures of Google Play or Android, or failures of the phone’s hardware.
24. Severability, Waiver & Assignment
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, it will be enforced to the maximum extent permissible and the rest of the Terms will remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of our right to do so later. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a sale or merger of the App or of AppskKuber, provided your rights under them are not reduced.
25. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms. When we do, we revise the "Last Updated" date and the version number above. Because the App never goes online, material changes are described in the App’s release notes on Google Play, and a change to how the App works applies to you only once you install the version that contains it. If you do not agree to updated Terms, stop using the App.
26. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and AppskKuber regarding the Service and supersede any earlier terms issued for it.
